We plan to promote a wholesome environment for mother tongues and will work
closely with the School so that our kids can raise their interest in learning
the language. This will not work without the support of
you, the parents.
HPPA is helping the Contact Time on every
Wednesday during term time. Our parent volunteers spare their lunch hours
on every Wednesday to coordinate and/or organise Mother Tongue based activities
for P1 and P2 pupils in the School Hall for the Chinese Group and in different
classrooms for the Malay and Tamil Groups.
- Chinese
-
Parent volunteers use videos and songs to stimulate 500 to 600 P1 and
P2 pupils to participate and to speak up in Chinese during Contact Time.
Games and Competitions are parts of the elements to increase pupils'
interest.
HPPA is also helping the school to source for a potential external
service provider to deliver a more structured program which may have a
better long-term impact on pupils' development and interest in Chinese.
-
- Malay
-
- Parent volunteers are helping the Contact Time which now have a
speech and drama programme run by external professionals. In
addition, they also assisted in language competition and arranged day
camp for the Malay students.
-
- Tamil
-
Our parent volunteers initiated and helped source for the external
profession to teach Speech & Drama programme during the Contact Time.
After freeing up their Wednesday time, our parent volunteers started the
reading program for P3 and P4 on Wednesday. They also promoted a
Creative writing program for P4 and P5 Tamil students. A typing
program for P3 is now in preparation.
HPPA also provides prizes to encourage and reward pupils for their
participation, contribution and performance in these activities.
Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts)
HPPA attempts to promote mother tongues through activities which can provide
the following:
- an interesting mother tongue speaking environment, especially for pupils
- an opportunity to appreciate Mother Tongue culture
- an opportunity to keep fit and to develop motor skills, self-confidence
and disciplines
- an opportunity to develop and nurture talents
- a family bonding opportunity
Wushu seems to fit all criteria. Most important, the School shares the
idea and approach with full support that Wushu is approved to be the new ECCA.
| HPPA is
glad to announced that it has successfully invited Singapore showcase
and Wushu Celebrity, Vincent Ng
(Weng
Qinghai,
翁清海),
to be the head coach of our newly introduced ECCA
- Wushu from Term 3, 2008 onwards.
This activity provides a Chinese speaking environment for pupils as
well as for their family members including parents and siblings.
(Please refer to Enrichment CCA webpage for more information). |
